What is the P2 & Youth Initiative?

For every 10 children, 1 lives with eczema. At P2 & You, we recognize that the deficit at which this chronic condition can leave a child is not just limited to the skin. There is a strong link between eczema and mental health. According to the National Eczema Association, children and adolescents with eczema are at an increased risk for depression, anxiety, behavioral challenges, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Additionally, the constant itchiness can be both stressful and distracting in a school setting or at other social gatherings which can result in bullying and feeling like an outcast. 2023 begins our P2 & Youth Initiative, a strategized plan of action we've developed to assist children living with eczema to establish positive self-care routines that will help them navigate through stressors that can negatively impact their mental health. Spearheaded by our P2 & Youth Children's Foundation, our fundraising efforts will support families of children with chronic and severe skin conditions to attend Camp Discovery free of charge! Camp Discovery is a week-long program organized by the American Academy of Dermatology Association where children engage in community-building activities that leave them feeling revived, empowered, confident and with a sense that they belong. • Eczema = Exile

Studies show that both adults and children tend to avoid children with chronic skin conditions. This makes for a lonely childhood and can take a toll on a child's mental health and self-confidence.

  • The Need Exists!

We surveyed 221 people, asking whether or not they believed that living with eczema negatively impacted their child's mental health. 98% said 'Yes'.

  • Kids Need Confidence

Children who are happy and confident are more likely to become adults who are happy and confident and also successful members of their communities.
